The People of Shang worshiped gods and spirits, theses spirits where believed to live in mountains rivers and seas. The people thought they had to keep these spirits and gods happy so they gave them offerings of food and other goods. They also thought that the gods and spirits would get angry with them if they did not treat them well. They also thought that if these spirits and gods were angered it would cause their farmers to have a bad harvest and for them to lose against other armies. They also honored their ancestors and or departed family members. Offerings were made to the ancestors in hopes of good luck. To this day the Chinese still remember their ancestors by going to temples and burning clothes or small paper copies of food.
